Cannot find server:

I have windows'98SE and I'm having problems getting IE to load Pages.
I currently am using a linksys wireless adapter and can get access to any hot spot or for that fact any wireless network without having to jump through hoops to get on to the internet meaning settings or having to adjust any network connections properties. But to get on to socalfreenet it just don't work. Please help me I live on 1000 block of 24th st. and am next to two nodes and recieve a signal between 20 & 40 %. I've tried internet options and setting my TCP/IP network properties. So any info on how to find a server would be helpful.
