Unable to connect to internet, need help!
FYI everyone, viruses (worms etc.) can wreak major havok, as we've discovered the past couple of days. Please, please, please install a free or paid for anti-virus program and also run a good anti-spyware program like the Microsoft beta. If your computer is causing problems we will disable first and wait for you to ask questions later. This protects everyone else's computer and keeps the network running. Read on to see what happened to one GH user:

There are 4 computers connected to Golden Hill free web in my house using a switch. Within the last week the network has either been very slow (to connect to the internet and browse) or just hasnt been able to connect. I use netscape and get the errors "resolving host" and eventually "unable to find host". All of the other pc's in my house are now able to connect to the internet (after about 2 days of not being able to) however, I still cannot connect. I have used the microsoft beta spyware program and removed any spyware/virus or worms. I still cannot connect and have no idea why because I have not changed or downloaded anything in the past week that I can imagine would cause this issue. I also checked my ethernet connection (it is working properly) and tested my cable...please help me if you can. I am out of ideas. thanks, Marc
And the answer is, most likely, we blocked your computer because it was causing major havoc on the network (likely with other computers also). Its just been re-enabled, so please let us know if its working again. If the internet stops working on your other computers then please turn off the one computer that wasn't working!
If your computer was working (though most likely very slowly) and now doesn't work at all, please run anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and then contact us at help at socalfreenet.org. Thanks!
