Suggestions for access problem in SD North County???

Has socal freenet got anything going in North San Diego County?

Here’s my situation. I’m out in a remote area of Vista, about 1,000 feet up on mountainside overlooking San Marcos, Carlsbad, and Vista with an unobstructed view all the way to the ocean about 10 miles away. The view is great but unfortunately one of the drawbacks of living out here is I’m stuck with dialup that’ll only connect at 28.8 because of the poor phone lines. There’s no cable, I’m too far from the switch to get DSL, satellite (which seems to get a lot of bad reviews) is still only 56k up and will cost about a grand to put in (plus $75 mo.). I do video production, have and edit suite at the house and I often need to be able to move large files quickly … which currently consists of burning the files to disc and quickly driving them where they need to go. My wife also works out of the house and we’re constantly wrangling over our four phone lines.

I’d be willing to invest in some equipment and expertise, as well as provide access to others in the neighborhood in similar straights.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

- Nick
