So Cal Free Net.org

I stumbled across this site last week by way of the SoCalWug newsletter and I'm really excited that free WiFi is happening here in SD.
Currently I live in Oceanside and would like to meet up with others in this area (if you're out there). Otherwise, I guess I'll have to start going downtown.
I've been working (slowly) on a similar project for a small town in Mexico where there are a surprisingly large number of computers...all dial-ups! I want to change that and provide a free internet link. But first, I want to get involved in this project and learn some more about WiFi. Although I do have an engineering degree, it wasn't an EE, so bear with any stupid questions I may come up with.
