Funding

Socalfreenet is funded by the following sources:

  • money paid by building owners for installations
  • grants for installations - typically by partnering with the building owners
  • inidivudual contributions

We are a largely volunteer organization, so these funds are matched by in-kind contributions of:

  • thousands of volunteer hours, typically by highly skilled technical people
  • equipment donations and discounts
  • monthly bandwidth connections

We can use your tax deductible donation of any size. For example:

  • $100 brings internet access to 1-2 affordable housing low-income residents
  • $10000 can bring an entire housing complex of 100-150 residents online
  • $350000 would provide bootstrap capital to bring the internet to all affordable housing complexes in San Diego County (26,000 residents in 310 complexes)
